Change your mindset to change your results
Your mindset and motivation can determine how well you succeed in your dance training, fitness and flexibility goals, and general day-to-day ambitions. If you’re struggling to stay motivated, there are some simple things you can do each day to help get you on the right track. Try these steps (which I like to call GAGA) each day and see how you get on.
With practice, you will begin to develop a more positive outlook, stronger focus and gain momentum.
Help focus on what you want to achieve by writing down your goals and reading them over regularly. There are different ways you can do this, and which method you choose is down to your personal preference.
I create a goal board at the start of each year, adding things I want to achieve by the end of that year. My goal board is up on the wall above my computer behind my desk. By having my goal board in a place I spend a lot of time in, I can easily look at my goals throughout the day which helps keep me focused and reminds myself to keep taking steps to achieve each goal.
By reviewing your goals each day, you will help to focus your mind on what really matters to you and you’ll be encouraged to take steps to achieve those goals.
After reviewing your goals each day, think of or write down some action steps you can take towards achieving any of your goals. It’s OK if you don’t complete all of these action steps, and if that happens, just move them to the following day or revisit them another time.
Each day, try to write down or think of something you are grateful for. This is one of the principles of mindfulness and is great for focusing our energy on the positives, rather than just our wants and desires.
Take the time to keep a success log. You can do this mentally, but you may find it helps to write things down as a reminder. At the end of each day, take a moment to make a note of some successes you accomplished that day, however small. Some days you may have been more productive than others, but each day will have some sort of success regardless. It’s important to acknowledge your successes, so that you gain momentum and stay motivated.
Try to make a conscious effort to regularly review your goals, actions, successes and what you are grateful for. Some days you may be tired, lacking motivation or be tempted to aimlessly scroll through social media. But the more you do this, the more focused you will become and you will also be rewarded by seeing what you have achieved.
